The OG on Rye Football: Garnets Start the Post Season with Husky Rematch Saturday

By The Old Garnet

GARNET and OG

DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE – DOUBLE YOUR FUN

Saturday, October 19 – Harrison @ Rye’s Nugent Stadium – Kickoff @ 1:00PM

Once again in ’19 it’s a second helping of “Husky Meat” for the Garnets as the rivalry record books surprisingly get taken off the shelf once more, reopening for the 92nd game played over the last 90 years. It seems the formula to determine Section One – Class A’s post-season playoff seedings ranked Rye as # 3. With Harrison’s 2-4 regular season record the Huskies were kenneled as Class A’s #14 ranked team – matching them against the Garnet and Black once more. One point either way and Rye gets either Pelham or Tappan Zee, but no it’s the yelping Huskies once again.

But more than a rematch, it is the third, immediate, back-to-back, belly-to-belly Garnets/Huskies edition of Dancing with the Stars in rivalry history. In both the ’02 and ’03 seasons there was a regular season game and a playoff encounter, but spaced over many weeks. In ’15 and ‘18 these archenemies played twice in two weeks, the final regular season game immediately followed by the initial playoff round. Obviously this is the case again in ’19. In the four prior seasons of such double-features, the first-time winner proceeded to sweep the rematch in all instances. To survive and advance to the Section One, Class A Playoffs the Garnets must continue this trend.

With last Saturday’s 41-13 brook bath, the Garnets now hold a comfortable 46-42-3 .505 advantage over the ever-vicious Huskies who now find themselves licking their paws having dropped eighteen out of the last nineteen dogfights.

The Old Garnet shouts “Hang the Huskies” as Rye advances from the Play-In to the Playoffs. Like last year the rematch will be much closer, especially if Rye relaxes and lets the dogs sneak into the back yard and into contention. This dog trainer whistles it Rye 29 – Harrison 7 come Saturday night.
