At approximately 0245 hours this morning, Rye Police Department was notified by a Johnson Place resident of suspicious individuals walking down a neighbor’s driveway.

Police units responded and as they entered Johnson Place two vehicles with headlights on came straight at them – one vehicle a Lexus SUV struck the front end of a Rye Police Department SUV causing the Lexus to roll over. The suspect was removed from the vehicle and placed in custody. The Lexus had just been stolen from a Johnson Place residence.

The second vehicle, a black Infiniti, stopped, and when they observed our officers, immediately fled eastbound toward Boston Post Road and in the process struck a second Rye police vehicle.

The Infiniti, reportedly stolen out of New Jersey, then drove around police units over a lawn and then eastbound on Barlow Lane. Units pursued the Infiniti down Barlow Lane and on to Trails End where the occupants fled from the vehicle and over a fence toward the Long Island Sound.

Officers gave pursuit on foot assisted by Port Chester Police Department– one suspect was captured near the vehicle scene. Officers found a “fanny pack” by the suspect containing a fully loaded Springfield Armor .40 cal. XD semi auto handgun.

The suspect involved in the Lexus was taken to Westchester Medical Center to be checked for injuries due to the nature of the accident – he was evaluated and released back into Rye Police custody. The suspect from the Infiniti was arrested at scene transported to police headquarters for processing.

Westchester County Police, Village of Mamaroneck Police and Harrison Police also assisted in the search.

The school districts of the City of Rye and Rye Neck were notified of the incident and a Code Red message was sent to residents in the area.

The suspects are believed to be from New Jersey and positive identifications are pending at this point. They face numerous felony charges and will likely be arraigned later today.

Commissioner Michael C. Corcoran, Jr. stated that this is an active investigation. “We are working with our law enforcement partners in Westchester County, as similar crimes have occurred in other communities.”

“Corcoran added that I am extremely proud of our Rye Police Department officers for their bravery and professionalism in engaging in these dangerous individuals.” I also thank our mutual partners for assisting us in this rapidly unfolding chain of events.”

Corcoran reiterated his advisement to residents that “if you see something…say something and to always lock your home and vehicles and take key fobs out of the vehicle whenever you are not in it.”
