MyRye.com reader and sometimes contributor Bob Zahm is reporting what looks like a water main break on Locust Avenue.

"Water is streaming down Locust avenue headed towards Theo Fremd. Looks like a water main break. Suez was out Friday night, but has done nothing more than put up a couple of cones to shift East-bound traffic into the West-bound lane," Zahm told MyRye.com. "So far today, Saturday, there’s no sign of work – or sense of an emergency. Of course, if you’re a pedestrian, you should probably wear your waders if trying to walk up Locust."
Zahm reported no additional progress on Sunday. City Manager Marcus Serrano told Zahm the water company is dealing with over a dozen breaks and that they have hired an outside contractor to deal with the Locust Avenue situation. The contractor is expected to show up on scene Monday.
And the Locust Avenue Creek keeps on flowing. Day 5 and still no action taken to stem this tremendous waste of fresh water. Someone did add a few more traffic cones today. So glad that we’re not in a Suez-defined drought emergency.
Day 7 brings warmer temps and what looks like constructive action to dry-out the Locust Ave Creek. If you’re driving today, you may want to avoid Locust Avenue as it’s closed between Theodore Fremd and Graham Court / Club Road.
