Owner of Rye Smoke Shop is Gone

Margaret "Peggy" D'Onofrio, owner of the beloved Rye Smoke shop which closed in 2016, is gone.

"Port Chester – Margaret "Peggy" D'Onofrio, 91, a lifelong resident of Port Chester died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on August 12, 2019.

She was born November 23, 1927 in Port Chester to the late Anthony and Mary Gleba Kantowsky. She was raised and educated in Port Chester graduating 1945. Peggy was married May 4, 1952 to Anthony "Tony" D'Onofrio at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Mr. D'Onofrio died September 9, 1995.

Peggy and Tony were the owners of TD's Rye Smoke Shop in Rye, NY for 46 years. She was the "unofficial matriarch" of Purchase St. in Rye.

Peggy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and is survived by her sons Anthony D'Onofrio and his wife Cheryl of Port Chester and Dean D'Onofrio and his wife Lauren of Summit, NJ., grandchildren Katherine "Kayce" and Diana D'Onofrio. Besides her husband she was predeceased by her brothers Joseph and Frank Kantowsky and sisters Frances, Florence and Kathryn Kantowsky."
