Our social scene columnist Pamela Baur begins a new MyRye.com feature At The Bar. Today, Pamela saddles up with a Rye stalwart, Tim Judge, a Rye Grill and Bar bartender since 1992.
Your Name: Tim Judge
Your Bar: The Rye Grill and Bar (1 Station Plaza, 967-0332)
Pamela Baur: So, How long has it been?
I’ve worked at the Rye Grill, both old and new, since May 5th 1992. I’ve also served as an opener at most of Jim Sullivan’s restaurants including Lexington Square Café (Mt. Kisco), Elm Street Oyster House (Greenwich), Heathcote Tavern (Scarsdale). Missed that Ruby’s opener though.
Ah well Tim, can’t win ‘em all! And what about prior to 1992?
Everything before working at the places listed above was in New Rochelle, need I say more?
Describe your clientele - who comes to the Rye Grill Now?
The clientele stretches beyond borders, I’ve seen and heard people coming in from as far as Ridgefield, CT! The scene is much more metro than family in so far as clientele.
What’s your drink of the moment?
COSMO – (how oh so New York Metropolitan!)
Tim won’t share his exact recipe but the general version goes a little something like this: Cranberry Juice, Citron Vodka, Triple Sec and Cranberry juice/lime/sour mix and garnished with a lemon!
What about your drink of the ages?
Gin and Tonic! Classic!
Your Favorite Garnish?
I like the orange in a Blue Moon.
Tell us your favorite bartender story
Simple. I met my wife. It was a night I was closing; she was drinking Coors Light, chewing Big Red and there with friends from work. The rest is history!
Thanks Tim.

WHY DIDN'T THIS INFAMOUS BEAST & EVERY RESTAURANT IN RYE TAKE PART IN RESTAURANT WEEK???
Posted by: Why not a Part of Restaurant Week? | March 28, 2009 at 05:40 PM
Forget the potato skins. Tiny and without flavor. Lots of other choices however.

Thanks for the mention Pamela. I was very excited to return to the RGB and see familiar faces and meet so many new ones as well! I'll just add as well my favorite bartender in RYE outside the "organization" would have to be George at Frankie and Johnnies (I hope I didn't just shoot myself in the foot!)

A comfy combination of casual and classic for Rye's hungry elite.
Tired of the same 'ole restaurant stops in Rye? Head over to the train station for a tasty evening out. This old hometown favorite has reappeared after years of renovation with a more upscale flare than the original. The classic colonial building gives the impression of an interior bustling with a fancily-clad clientele. Though partially fitting, equally so is a casual atmosphere that welcomes jeans, tees and kids, reminding you it's still a bar and grill. It's a mixed sort, peppered with Armani Jean moms & dads with their Burberry kids.
But whether you're dressed from work and coming off the 5:33 craving crab-stuffed trout or a thick filet, or whether you're fresh from a Rye Rec. tennis match and you'd kill for a Fred Flintstone-sized burger and fries, the single-page menu is plenty big with a range of tastes for all.
A few notes:
Packed in, but plenty spacious, with two floors for seating.
A large bar area keeps you entertained, if and when you have to wait. (Make a reservation)
Parking meters out front, but not nearly enough for everyone.
A good selection of wine.
Extra points for service*. ( I think they're working out the kinks)
*A special thanks to our patient waiter who was handcuffed by our friend's 7-year old then "photographed" for evidence.
