From master gardeners to scientists to backyard vegetable growers, plant experts know that a healthy garden starts with healthy soil. Join us February 10th at Wainwright House for a fascinating introduction to the magic of soil, the complex world beneath your lawn and garden. Before you finalize your 2016 landscape contract, come hear about the latest science and the easiest, most practical ways to keep your soil happy and healthy without using synthetic chemicals.

Taro graduated from SUNY Geneseo and has continued his education at the Eagle Hill Institute and New York Botanical Garden. He has worked as an educator for the last thirteen years at various nature centers throughout the County, teaching both children and adults about the natural world. He has managed hundreds of forested acres locally, creating and implementing habitat management plans, including at the Rye Nature Center.
Special Guest: Max Apton, Farmer and Founder, The Farmer's Garden; formerly of Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture
Max Apton has been growing vegetables organically for several years. He has pursued his passion for fresh food and soil on farms from Hawai’i to Vermont. Recently, Max served for three seasons as the vegetable field manager at Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture in Pocantico Hills, NY. Currently, he manages Amawalk Farm in Katonah and operates The Farmer’s Garden, his own edible landscaping business. The Farmer’s Garden serves residents across Westchester, helping homeowners design, build and maintain organic vegetable gardens.
