Milton Has Gas, Students are Fine

Sounds like the cafeteria ovens are a bit funky at Milton school. The students had to evac for a few minutes, but all is fine.

Here are the school comms on this one:

Subject: Update on Alarm Issues at Milton

Dear Parents and Guardians of Milton School Students:

As you know, Milton School has been evacuated briefly twice in the past two days. Both alarms were triggered by an odor of gas in the cafeteria area. A valve in one of the cafeteria’s ovens was replaced on Tuesday, but the issue re-occurred on Wednesday. All of Milton’s ovens are now undergoing a thorough examination with the Fire Department present.

Please be assured that the students, faculty and staff were never in any danger – the Fire Department’s gas-detection meters have been in place since Tuesday’s alarm and have at no time registered levels that would cause concern. The Fire Department will return early tomorrow morning to make sure no gas is present.

Thank you for your patience in this matter.
Sincerely,
Frank Alvarez
Superintendent

Dear Parents and Guardians of Milton School Students:

The All-Clear has been issued by the Rye Fire Department and students are back in the building. The children were outside for approximately 20 minutes.

This morning’s alarm was due to an odor of gas in the building in the cafeteria area. The Rye Police and Fire Department remain on the scene to determine the exact cause of the odor, but have deemed the building safe.

Thank you for your patience; we will update you as more information becomes available.
Sincerely,
Frank Alvarez
